Content is the key. Lots of it, with constant up dates to it, and it should be well written and informative not just a sales pitch.

The more pages you can create the better. Upwards of 100 pages will highlight your site as an important one. Sites with only a few pages rarely appear on the first page of search engine results.

As the site ages its importance will increase. Those who got in early generally outperform the later sites. Google also have an ageing process for links. As these links approach six months old they become of more importance.

Reciprocal links once gone through the ageing process are still being counted, even with Googles updated algorithm.

Article writing and publishing will produce huge numbers of backlinks. You should be looking to produce upwards of 30 articles and aim for around 250.

Attaching a weblog to your site which is updated daily will increase the rate at which the search engines visit your site and at the same time adds valuable content and links.

Page Rank has still some importance in determining your position in the rankings because it is based on the links and the content of your site. However the page rank as given by the Google Toolbar is not necessarily accurate. A more accurate page rank can be gauged from using the detail supplied by the Google Sitemap statistics. Consequently generate a sitemap and submit it to Google.

The most important piece of advice is to design your site for the visitor and not the search engines. Have as much information within the content as possible and keep the graphics to a minimum.

A few days ago, I ran into an article about them that claims they build a safe net for themselves, and all of us to use. How does one figure? Google silently buy left-over fiber optics at the lowest prices. Something nice for the future…

Yesterday, I went to Mozilla Firefox to get a referral button for my upcoming ezine. Have been using Firefox after a 2-week spy and worm attack back in June. At that time, my desktop had been invisible from pop-up windows and the volume muted for virus alert sirens and my poor computer could not breathe using IE…. Then I ran into Kaspersky, but that luck only lasted for 30 days as well; they wanted $70… Since free Firefox NOTHING not one single intruder. I have peace. IE now sits and ruts…, while the FF plug-ins make beautiful music.

So, I go get the button, and what do I read? They, Google, now not only have a referral system for adsense with neat little buttons, but they will take Firefox under their wings with something like ‘Google recommends Firefox’. I am touched! It’s the best thing to happen for us, for these guys operate in a speed that suits me, compared with MS. They’re livin’.

But, listen to this, on the SAME DAY, yes, yesterday, I get this article from Jim Edwards of http://simurl.com/wonderwords named ”Google’s Next Step: Are Print Mail Order Catalogs Dead?”

He describes how any respectable US print catalog is being listed and the graphics of each page shown in their catalog database for free, and permanently. Google even update it manually. My favorite feature is that your objects on scanned print pages will be linked to their twins on your site.

I think it’s time for many Affiliate Marketers (AM) to reconsider their methods for building their web sites Search Engine position. I have been using Blog and Ping techniques for about a year now, but blog and ping is slowing loosing its effectiveness because so many AM’s are using the method.

If you’ve been living on the dark side of the moon, then you may not know what Blog and Ping is all about. Well, in a nutshell, blog and ping is a technique for increasing your websites position by creating blogs and using software that automatically posts to those blogs along with links back to your main website. The blogs then ping Blog services to notify them that some new content is available. The ping services then attract Search Engine spiders and before to long, you’re website is spidered.

This solution worked like wonders about a year ago (2005), but is loosing its effectiveness because all the blog and ping tools create mediocre content that is all based on Search Engine scrapes or RSS feeds. You end up getting a blog site full of useless information with links back to your web page. The Search Engines have caught on and they are able to filter out the bad content. In fact, it may actually be hurting your website. There’s no proof yet, but I would expect that all the SE’s will soon start penalizing websites that are trying to boost their position through blog and ping techniques.

That brings me to articles. About four months ago, I wrote an article and posted it to ArticleCity. After I submitted it, I forgot about it. Just yesterday, during a moment of boredom, I thought about that article and decided to do some research. Had anyone picked it up? A quick search on Google showed that the article has been published on 802 different websites! I also noticed that after Google’s last update, the Page Rank (PR) of my affiliate marketing website went up nicely from 3 to 5.

This was with just ONE ARTICLE submitted to just ONE ARTICLE SITE that I put together in :30 minutes. I was floored.

Considering how much time I’ve spent configuring blog and ping software, how many unneeded domains I’ve purchased to make traffic all look like it’s coming from different directions, how hard I’ve worked trying to find content for the B&P software, etc…. I would have been much better off just writing good, informative articles.
